Dino Cajic on Daily Social Media Content

Have you struggled to find the time to post quality content? Whether it’s for your own brand or for your business, posting quality content takes time and dedication. You can always throw something random on your page, but that will hurt you more than it will help you. I’m in the process of doing just this and wanted to share my approach. It turns out that it’s all about proper planning.

The Struggle

If you’re anything like me, you have a full-time job that consumes a good chunk of your day. You have a family that consumes the other portion of it. Somewhere in the middle you try to build your brand or your business. It can get overwhelming quickly, especially if you try to tackle it daily. You’ll burn out quickly and start thinking about quitting before you get any real traction.

I’ve been there myself. I felt that I’ve missed the boat and that I’ll just focus on my family and my job. If either suffers, you lose.

Daily Social Media Posting

I go through a pretty extensive daily schedule. I have a channel dedicated towards programming and another dedicated towards car modifications. I also have a SaaS business that’s currently in infancy. Each of these require daily maintenance. So, what exactly do I do for each channel daily?

Programming

  • Post an article on Medium
  • Post an article on my personal website
  • Post a reel to Instagram
  • Post a TikTok
  • Post 2–5 Tweets
  • Post a YouTube video

Car Modifications Channel

  • Post to Instagram
  • Post to YouTube (2 times per week)
  • Post to TikTok (2–3 times per week)

SaaS Business

  • Consistency not achieved yet

The Approach

As you can see, that’s quite a ton of content that I need to generate each day. I’m frequently asked if I ever sleep. The answer is yes: 8 hours each night. So, how do I do it? The solution is quite simple: utilize Jira and plan extensively. I’ll take advantage of any time throughout the day to plan.

Programming. During my daily hikes, I log article titles and potential instagram reels in Jira. After that, it’s all about the routine:

  • Each night, I’ll sit down and write an article. There are two types of articles that I write: programming tutorials and software industry related content.
  • I’ll copy one of my articles from Medium and post it to my personal website since I started that one significantly later. Currently I have a 190 articles so that’s a ton of content for my website that needs to be copied over.
  • Prior to writing a programming tutorial, I’ll write the code and record the video while I’m writing it. The video is edited and posted on YouTube. Adobe Premiere is optimized to contain my intro, so editing the video is pretty quick. I do like to tackle videos in chunks. I normally dedicate an 8 hour session one weekend per month and knock out quite a few of them.
  • The software industry related articles are also multi-purpose driven. I try to stick to bullet points so that I can reuse that content. How? I’ll record reels around them. They represent series, like the “Career Killer” series, which contains 6 reels. Reels are also recorded once a month and I’ll do them over a 4 hour period one day. The editing is again pretty quick since these are 30–60 second clips.
  • The reel is reposted to TikTok. Nothing more to it.
  • The reel is also posted as a YouTube short.
  • The article is shared to LinkedIn and content related around it is added as a post.
  • Twitter has been scheduled for the next 3 months. I have a lot of stuff to say about software development and don’t want to dump all my ideas at once. So I schedule them at 3–5 tweets per day.

Car Modifications. Since the content creation has been consuming a significant amount of my time, it’s been difficult to create consistent content for my Car Modifications channel. However, I’ve gone through quite a few photoshoots and have hundreds of high quality photos at my disposal. Recently, I’ve started recording content again. Last week I recorded 20 videos for Instagram/TikTok (vertical) and for YouTube (horizontal). This took roughly 10 hours. I knew exactly what I wanted to create and had bullet points for myself ready to talk about. When the Programming content is scheduled out far enough, I’ll take advantage of the slow place and pre-record content for my Car Modifications channel.

SaaS Business. The reason there’s no consistency is because the SaaS applications aren’t fully ready to be released to the market. Once I get close, the approach will be similar to the other two channels. Content will be planned and pre-generated.

Photography. That’s right, I’ve started another channel related to photography. I’m still contemplating whether to actively pursue this one or not, but it’s definitely doable.

Moral of the Story

Plan extensively. Log your ideas into Jira as tasks for yourself. Review your Jira board daily and make sure that you are posting content consistently. Here are a couple of screenshots of my Jira board.
